Day-To-Day Electrical Work
Your work will cover vehicle electrical inspection, diagnosis and repair. Junior technicians complete basic tasks under supervision, while mid-level technicians undertake intermediate diagnosis and component repairs.
- Inspect, test and repair batteries, starting and charging systems, lighting, fuses, wiring and body electrical systems.
- Use multimeters, battery testers, test lights, scan tools and other approved diagnostic equipment.
- Read wiring diagrams, connector pinouts, fuse layouts and technical repair information.
- Assist with or complete wiring-harness repairs using approved crimping, soldering, insulation and heat-shrink methods.
- Record diagnostic findings, completed repairs, used parts and additional faults on job cards or the DMS.
- Follow HSE, ESD, PPE, 5S and hybrid or electric vehicle safety requirements.
- Coordinate with Mechanical Technicians, Job Controllers, Service Advisors, Parts staff and the Diagnostic Specialist.
Education And Experience Requirements
You need a Trade Certificate, ITI, Vocational Diploma or an equivalent qualification in Auto-Electrical, Automotive Electronics or Motor Vehicle Electrical systems. Basic English communication and strong safety discipline are also required.
Requirements differ according to the technician level:
- Junior level: Zero to three years of automotive workshop experience. Fresh graduates may be considered when they have relevant internship or apprenticeship experience.
- Mid-level: Five to seven years of hands-on auto-electrician experience gained in a dealership or an established multi-brand workshop.
Experience in multi-brand or GCC/UAE workshops is an advantage. A valid UAE or GCC driving licence is preferred.
Technical Knowledge By Level
Junior candidates should understand basic 12V circuits and be familiar with hand tools and basic electrical testing equipment. These technicians will handle basic tasks with supervision while building experience in workshop processes.
For the mid-level position, Rafid asks for systematic fault diagnosis, wiring-diagram interpretation, harness repair and scan-tool use. You should also have intermediate CAN/LIN fault-finding capability.
Hybrid or electric vehicle awareness training is required when working around those vehicles. A recognised high-voltage awareness certification is preferred for mid-level candidates.
